CHAI PE CHARCHA: POET-TEA IN BOMBAY

MF Husain at Bagdadi, Arvind Krishna Mehrotra at Military Cafe, Ambedkar at The Wayside Inn, Adil Jussawalla at Samovar, Arun Kolatkar at Irani Cafes, Imtiaz Dharker at the Naz Cafe, Allen Ginsberg strolling around Rampart Row, Eunice de Souza meandering through the bars of Colaba, the Progressive Artists at Olympia...the old cafes of Kala Ghoda & Colaba have been the muse to many poems by the Bombay Poets, and were inclusive meeting points for people from all religions, castes, genders, and nationalities. Almost every Bombay poet has written about these iconic cafés, many of which are still open and running. Through the course of this poetry crawl, we will go to every cafe that has been written about, meet the owners and listen to their stories of how their establishments were frequented by the greatest artists of the 20th century. And, of course, we'll enjoy the chai and brun maska at each cafe!
